Jony Ive’s photo on the Apple Leadership page was removed yesterday marking the official note that Jony has led the company.

This news isn’t any surprise to anyone who has been following it, back in June Apple announced that after 30 years with the company, Jony Ive would be departing the company ‘later in the year’ and now that time has come. Jony and his friend Marc Newson have started their own design company called LoveFrom, Marc famously helped influence some of the unique design elements of the Apple Watch.

Apple’s Early Days

Apple joined Apple back in the 90s, before Steve Jobs had returned in 1996. From then on Jony led the design team at Apple up until 2015, when he was promoted to Chief Design Officer. His and Steve’s work on the first iMac and iPod helped rescue the company from bankruptcy in the late 90s.

Jony’s latest work is Apple Park, Apple’s new HQ and also the redesign of the Apple Stores.

“Jony is a singular figure in the design world and his role in Apple’s revival cannot be overstated, from 1998’s groundbreaking iMac to the iPhone and the unprecedented ambition of Apple Park, where recently he has been putting so much of his energy and care.”
