Last month, Apple hosted its event for the new iPad Air, Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch SE and much more. The iPhone was notably absent from that event, which was expected and now Apple has announced a new event which will be taking place on 13th October, next week. Apple has called this event ‘Hi, Speed” which could suggest 5G will be coming to this years iPhone models.

New iPhone

We’re expecting the new iPhone 12 from this event, rumours are hinting towards three new models, a 5.4-inch iPhone and 6.1-inch model for the lower end iPhone 12 and for the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, they are expected to come in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inc sizes. Also rumoured is a new iPhone 12 mini  which is will come in a 5.4-inch size.

In terms of design, it has long been rumoured that the curved edges Apple has been using since the iPhone 6 will be gone in favour of a more squared off design, taking cues from the current iPad Pro and iPad Air.

Apple is also expected to add support for 5G in the new models this year, with support for mmWave 5G as well as sub 6GHz too.

Anything else?

Apple is expected to launch a small HomePod, AirTags, maybe announce a new ARM based Mac and new over the ear headphones, called ‘AirPods Studio’.

The event

Apple will be live streaming the event on YouTube at 10am PT / 6pm BST and we’ll be live covering the event on our A&T Tech Live Twitter account, so be sure to follow along.
