In December, BMW shared a press release outlining the fact that Apple Car Key cards, which are available to be used on BMW cars can now be shared between iPhone and Android devices, of which it says is the result of a new co-development with Apple and Google.

Since the launch of Car Key, BMW has been an early partner and the main benefit is that there is no dedicated app required. The key lives in Apple Wallet and is sharable to the Google Wallet on Android. Judging by what BMW has said, this only works on the Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and require them to be running Android 13 or later. For iOS, this requirement is iOS 16.1 or later.

The cars can now be shared and also between platforms using Apple AirDrop or Android Nearby Share.
