This week, MG has put its new MG3 hatchback on sale in the UK, after unveiling it less than a month ago at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show. The company has decided to not make a full electric hatchback this time around and instead opt to make a full hybrid, which is actually the first of its kind for MG. The new MG3 Hybrid+ is on sale now in the UK and is priced form £18,495 which seriously undercuts the likes of the Renault Clio Hybrid, Toyota Yaris (and the very similar Mazda 2 Hybrid), all of which are well over £20,000. If you step back and take a look at non-hybrid hatchbacks, only the Vauxhall Corsa gets close, at £1,000 more than the MG.

The new MG3 has a 1.5-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels. In total, the car has an impressive 192bhp with 134bhp coming from the electric motor. We also get a respectable 250Nm of torque. For the battery, there is a 1.83kWh unit and all this combined helps the MG3 achieve 64.2mpg and 100g/km of CO2.

MG still has some activity at Longbridge and its UK based team has helped the company tune the chassis and suspension to help cope with our unique roads. MG is also throwing in a 7 year / 80,000 mile warranty.

In terms of specs, the MG3 comes in two trim levels, SE and Trophy – similar to the MG4. The base model has a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in sat-nav, reversing camera as well as smart tech such as cruise control, lane keeping assist, driver attention alert and much more. The top spec Trophy model is only £2,000 more and adds LED headlights, 360-degree parking camera, heated seats and wheel as well as rain sensing wipers and blind spot detection.

The new MG3 Hybrid+ is on sale now in the UK, priced from £18,495.
